Can Light Truck LT Tires Be Used On a Camper Trailer
Published 02/27/2020 >
Question:
First, thanks for all your great advice. I have a light pop-up travel trailer. Dry, it weighs 1500lbs. I am planning on going up in trailer tire and rims. I currently have Goodyear Duratracs LT on my tow vehicle and appreciate aggressive tread on them. Am I correct in understanding that due to the lightness of the trailer that I can use LT tires on my trailer? Are there other high rated tires that are a little bit more aggressive that you would recommend? Thank you!

It is possible to use light truck (LT) tires on a trailer but weight is not the main concern. That said, I highly recommend using special trailer (ST) tires instead. The reason for this is because special trailer tires are designed specifically for trailers as the name would imply therefore have a much thicker sidewall. This thicker sidewall is needed because trailers have a rougher ride therefore are constantly bouncing up and down. Furthermore, the thicker sidewalls prevent the trailer from swaying as much when compared to light truck tires. The issue of trailer sway is actually more prevalent on smaller camper trailers than larger ones so in your case I really recommend you go with a special trailer tire.
If you are looking for a tire with an aggressive tread pattern, the Taskmaster Provider line like part # TR225LRE has some good options. If you can provide me with the size of tires you have or want to install on your trailer I can provide you with some part numbers but otherwise you will need to take a look at our selection which is attached for you.
