How Wide Are the Rhino-Rack SUP and Surfboard Pads

Published 02/12/2020

Question:

Will the Rhino Rack system allow you to transport both a bicycle and surfboard at the same time. I currently have a Rhino Rack bike carrier that works great but would like to transport both my surfboard and bicycle at the same time

As long as you have enough bar space and sufficient weight carrying capacity on your roof rack and vehicle, there isn't any reason why you can't carry a surfboard and bike at the same time. A Rhino-Rack roof rack system that uses the # RRVA126S-2 crossbars, # RRRLKVA legs and # DK361 fit kit will have 49" long cross bars- which can fit more than one accessory at a time as long as they both fit within the constraints of the bars.

The Rhino-Rack SUP and Surfboard Pad # RRRWP04 is 27-1/2" long (but your board may be slightly wider), so you'll need to take the length of your bars (inside the side rails/mounting feet) and then subtract the amount of space taken by your bike carrier to determine if there is enough room for the surfboard. If you've got a Rhino-Rack Hybrid Roof Bike Rack # RRRBC050 the amount of space it takes up is really negligible, so it really depends on the width of your surfboard, but I'm struggling to think of a situation where you're not able to do this. Using the 49" bars listed above, you'll have 22-1/2" of bar space to fit your bike rack on-which is going to be enough in most cases.

If you've got a different roof rack, you can still measure the bars and do some math in the manner mentioned above to determine if you can make these work together or not.
