Best Tonneau Cover Style For Towing A Fifth Wheel

Updated 07/01/2025 | Published 02/08/2020

Question:

I trying to find the best tonneau cover for my 5th wheel hitch, the bak mx4 or the bak roll soft top model. Will I have enough room to leave one panel down on a short bed to haul my trailer for vison clearance, instead of block window

The best tonneau cover option to use when towing is a retractable cover because it retracts into a canister so it doesn't block any of the view while towing. If you get a fold up cover it will block the cab window. If you get a roll up cover it will interfere with the trailer's overhang especially while turning. If you give me the year make and model of your truck I can make a recommendation.

2024 Chevy 3500 standard bed. What are options for cover. I like retractable but cost could be a factor.

@DavidT Yes, retractable can be costly. The Pace Edwards Switchblade part # PE87CV is a good option that is the least costly option for your truck. It is a manual retractable option but it does retract. This is designed for the 8 foot bed. For the 6-3/4 foot you will need part # PE63CV. Let me know if these options are too expensive and I can recommend a better option for you :)
