Expert Reply:
The Optronics 2-1/2 Inch Flush Mount Trailer Light, # MC57RB, requires a grommet and 2 wire plug, # A46PB, and is not designed to be surface mounted. The 2 wire plug would interfere from surface mounting the light.
Instead, you could use the Heavy-Duty Metal Mounting Bracket, # BK55BB, and grommet, # A57GB. This mounting bracket will allow you to mount the light without having to drill a 3 inch hole in your trailer and the light will sit in the grommet securing it to the bracket.
Another option would be the Optronics 2-1/2 Inch Surface Mount Trailer Light, # MC58RB. This light will surface mount on your trailer, but it does not have a reflectorized lens. I have attached a review video of this light for you to check out.
