Are Weight Distribution Hitches Dangerous to Install

Arent weight distributing hitches dangerous to hook up? How would someone relatively weak be able to hook up such a hitch?

Weight distribution hitches are not dangerous to install, though I can understand why you might think that given that it is an involved process in regards to there being a number of steps and components.

That said, so long as you have the proper tools - and a little bit of patience - you will be able to install a weight distribution system. You will also need to be able to lift up the individual parts, but they are designed so that the average person can do it. But if you are not comfortable with something like this, you can always have an installer do it for you. A local RV shop/dealer will have experience with these installs so you can place a call to one in your area if you prefer. After it is installed, the process of hooking up and disconnecting is also not dangerous so long as you use your trailer jack which will allow you to easily connect/disconnect the bars.

It is important to make sure you get the right system, and to do that you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.

The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you.

For example, the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0600 would be perfect if you had a 450 lb or so tongue weight, while the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # RP66560 is great for something in the 900 lb or so range.
