Using Yakima LockUp Hitch and Cable Lock # Y07238

Question:
Does the small loop at the end of the cable lock slide over the hitch tongue to secure the bikes and cable lock to the rack? What is the function of the small loop next to the key lock mechanism that receives the male end of the bike locking cable. Im assuming it slides over the rack hitch tongue before the tongue goes into the hitch receiver. That way the cable is secured to the rack. Is this correct?

Expert Reply:
Once the rack is locked into the receiver, the end of the cable with the loop is passed around the shank of the rack near the receiver. Then the end of the cable with the locking tip is passed through the loop, and the cable is pulled snug. The remainder of the cable passes through the bike frames and the end of the cable with the metal tip comes around to connect to the lock threaded onto the cable.
The process is very easy in practice, but difficult to describe in words. Take a look at the provided diagram that came from the installation instructions. Looking at the diagram should make using the cable a bit more understandable for you.
I have also linked you to the installation instructions.
