Parts Needed To Flat Tow 1999 Dodge Dakota Behind Motor Home

From our research a 1999 Dodge Dakota 4X4 can be flat towed if it has a manual transmission and 4 cylinder motor. I do recommend to take a look at your particular owner's manual to make sure you can tow your Dakota because I am not sure of your model and there may be specifics in the owners manual that I was not able to find online.

If you end up with a model that can be flat towed you will need a base plate, tow bar, tow bar wiring, supplemental braking system, safety cables and possibly a high low adapter.

I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms part # 246-6 because of it's removable draw bar arms design for a discreet install.

For the tow bar I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain part # RM-522 because of it's non-binding design. It features the freedom latch that releases the tension to make disconnecting the tow bar much easier.

For the safety cables I recommend part # RM-643.

You will also need tow bar wiring, for the I recommend Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit part # RM-15267 which comes with a 6-way plug for the front of the Dakota and a coiled cord to connect it to the motor home's 7-way for a nice clean install compared to the other options with dangling wires.

Almost all states require a supplemental braking system so the tow vehicle brakes when the motor home brakes. I recommend Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional part # SM99251 because once it's installed it requires very little maintenance. It features an air actuating cylinder that depresses the brake pedal in the vehicle when the motor home brakes that can remain in the vehicle even while being driven.

If your motor home happens to have air brakes, you will need part # SM99243 which is the same setup but for air brakes.

Finally you may need a high low adapter to tow the vehicle level with the motor home. In order to know how much rise or drop it will require to tow level some measuring is required.
