Question:

need a wiring harness for the lights on my trailer for 2020 toyota tacoma. I don't need a hitch. What is the installation like?

If you are just looking to tow a trailer with lights and without brakes, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56349. This will give you a 4-Pole flat on the back of the Tacoma to tow a trailer with lights. This Harness plugs into the tail light assemblies on the truck so it is a very straight forward and simple installation. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

If you plan on towing a trailer with brakes in the future, you may consider the Tekonsha 7-Way vehicle wiring harness part # 22117 which gives you a fully functional 7-Way plug on the Tacoma to use a brake controller to tow a trailer with brakes. One side of the harness plugs in behind the tail lights without splicing but the wiring portion of the connector will need to be spliced into the cold side of the brake pedal so it does require some wiring. I have attached a diagram for your reference.

Once installed the harness includes a pigtail that plugs into a certain compatible brake controllers. For the brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2 part # 90885 because of it's 3 boost level setting that allows you to pre-determine the initial intensity of the braking when you are towing heavier loads. It is also designed with a spinning manual override lever that is easy to get to in emergency situations.

2020 TOYOTA TACOMA SR NO FACTORY TOW PACKAGE INSTALLED. I AM LOOKING FOR A HARNESS THAT I CAN USE THAT WILL HAVE THE 7 PIN AND 4 PIN CONNECTORS AS TOYOTA USES FROM THE FACTORY. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IS AVALIBLE.? IF SO, WHAT PARTS DO I NEED TO ORDER? THANK YOU

We have a solution for you Ron. You and use the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness # 22117. This will give you all of your proper lighting functions to the rear of your vehicle. If you decide to get a break controller, it will have the wires in order to get breaking to the 7 pole. Instead of using the 7 pole that comes with the kit, I would use the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975. This will give you the 4 and 7 pole connections that you are wanting and will plug right into the US connector on the Tekonsha kit.
