Trail Air Pin Box Shock and Air Bag Replacements?
Published 10/31/2019 >
Question:
I have a Trail Air L05 24,000 GWV pin box for my 5th wheel. I have been having issues with chucking and thought I would check the shock. I removed it and noticed that it has no spring action like you would find on a car or truck. You can slide it to whatever length you want. Is this normal or should it be replaced?

What you're experiencing is exactly what a Trailair is supposed to suppress and would tell me that some of your components are worn down. While some chucking is inevitable, your shock shouldn't really move freely like you're suggesting, so replacing the shock would likely help fix some of your current problems.
I can't say that I've seen a Trailair pin box that has a 24,000-lb capacity; I've only seen them go up to 21,000-lbs. If you do end up having a 21000-lb version opposed to a 24000-lb version, you can use the Replacement Shock # LC177223 . This shock will fit on most of the Trailair models up to 21000-lbs capacity-but if you can, please supply the pin box number so we can verify.
You may also want to replace the air bag on your unit. In order to determine which airbag you can use, I'll need to verify the capacity- but if you can supply me with that I can also find your appropriate replacement airbag.
