How Often Should Trail Air Pin Box Air Bag be Replaced

Updated 01/06/2026 | Published 09/15/2024

Question:

What is the expected life of the rubber airbag used in my trail Air pin box? Is it a good idea to transfer my existing 20 year old pin box to a new trailer.

Thanks for reaching out, Fred!

I wish I could put a number on the life of the air bag on your Trail Air pin box, but there are so many variables (like how much it's inflated and how often it's used) that it's next to impossible to give an accurate number. Basically, as long as your air bag looks like it's in good condition then you're still good to go.

If you're using the same air bag that came on your unit 20 years ago that's extremely impressive. If you're thinking it's time to put the old air bag out to pasture then you'll want to get the Replacement Air Spring for Trailair 5th Wheel Pin Boxes # LC432404 to keep your pin box up and running.

Hey Fred, how did things turn out with your Trail Air pin box and the old air bag? Did you decide to keep using it or go with the replacement air spring? Your update could make it easier for others wondering about the lifespan of theirs.

@JesseM We still have the old bag. We wont be towing until August with it old air bag. The tech said it should be OK. We will see what happens then.
