Question:
ive purchased this item for my 2011 f150. ive read theres problem from 2015-2018 model years. when I first install the brake controller to my truck, no power comes on the indicator. am I doing something wrong? without the brake controller installed, I can hook up my trailer wiring to my truck and have all lights working on my trailer.

Correct, there is going to be issues using the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 on a 2015+ Ford F-Series Pickups due to the SmartTow feature which cuts power to the trailer connector. That said, this feature is not present on the 2011 model so the issue you are having is likely a blown fuse. The fuse you will need to check is in the engine bay fuse box, #21 which is a 30 amp.
