Will the Inertia Sensor On a Trailer Brake Controller Apply Brakes Without Pressing the Pedal
Updated 10/09/2019 | Published 10/08/2019 >
Question:
I installed the Prodigy P2 in a 2003 Chevy Blazer as instructed except for the red brake wire. It seems to activate the trailer brakes when I slow down, and definitely activates the brakes with the lever. Theres no digital readout when just applying the brakes, however. Does the inertia sensor still activate the brakes when I decelerate, even though there is no numerical readout? Bonus question: do you happen to know where to find the brake wire on a 2003 S10 Blazer LS? Thank you

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 does indeed have an internal inertia sensor that senses deceleration and applys voltage to the trailer's brakes accordingly however, this inertia sensor must first become triggered from the brake pedal. Therefore, your trailer's brakes would not activate without the red wire attached and the brake pedal depressed.
Unfortunately, I don't have any wiring schematics for a Chevrolet Blazer but all you will need to do to find the stop light switch is test the bundle of wires behind the brake pedal and find the one that is only hot while the brake pedal is depressed.
