The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch part # DM8550024 is heavy, there is no denying that but it can be broken down into three separate pieces which will make removal much more manageable. The three separate pieces are the head which weighs around 60 lbs, the base which weighs around 180 lbs, and the side brackets which are around 60 lbs as well for a total of 300 lbs.
I will say that the majority of customers who frequently install and remove this hitch use the Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket part # DM6100 with an overhead pulley system. There is also a cover for the head if you wish to leave the hitch installed, the Cover for Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM14844.
