Adjustable Ball Mount with Long Shank for 2" Ball Mount with 8" Rise

Updated 10/04/2019 | Published 10/03/2019

Question:

I am having trouble finding a ball mount to fit my MB GLE 350 vehicle to haul a boat weighing 4K. I need approximately 8 inch rise. The issue is most adjustable designsthe shank distance from the Pin hole to the support gusset is not long enough and may not allow clearance to the bumper cover on the vehicle. The# BXW4003? sway bar shank seems to have the clearance I need. Can this be used upside down without the sway bar set up as a regular ball mount set up - if so what ball attachment would be used a non sway bar set up?

To answer your question first- Yes. You are able to use the Blue Ox Sway Pro Weight Distribution Shank # BXW4003 as a standard rise/drop ball mount. To make it a complete towing setup, you need to add the Ball Mount Adapter # BA-1 , which works with shanks that have 1-1/4" adjustment increments. Using this setup will give you around 14" of distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball.

The other option, which would be a more economical choice if you don't need 14" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount hole is the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # AMSC10 which will give you 11-1/2" from center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole. This mount has an 8-3/4" rise or 10" drop depending on how it's used and has an 8000-lb capacity.

If you can let me know the exact distance from the center of your hitch pin hole to the edge of your bumper, I can determine how much clearance you actually need and what other options might work for you.
