Does Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller Require Power on Brake Output Circuit of 7-Way
Question:
I have this unit, but my toyota Sequoia doesnt have a brake controller and I uderstand I dont need one. On the 7 pin conector there is no power to the pin dedicated for electric brake, do I need to run a 12 volt hot line ? Where is the unit getting the power from in order to apply the brakes ? Thanks for your time and assistance. Best Regards,

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Curt # C51180 that you referenced does not require the vehicle to have a brake controller installed in it as this is an entire brake controller solution. There also does not need to be voltage on the 7-way pin in the 5:00 position which is normally the brake output circuit. This draws power from the 12 volt power circuit of the 7-way which is in the 1:00 position. It uses the trailer stoplight circuits to determine when the vehicle brakes are applied and to know when to start applying the trailer brakes.
I attached a review video link for this brake controller for you to check out as well.
