Bypassing Factory Brake Controller of 2016 Ford Expedition
Published 06/28/2019 >
Question:
I came across your site looking for ford controller problems and its looks like you have an expert or more who might be able to help. I have 2016 expedition with factory tow package. I keep getting a trailer brake module fail message. Lights work, but when applying the brakes it looks like it sends signal for a second then shuts off. Does this with all three of my trailers. I replaced brake control module and this did not fix issue. I have not replaced the brake controller on dash. I was going to ask if you had suggestions since throwing parts at it is expensive way to see if it will fix since ford wont take back electronics. Maybe I need a circuit tester built for checking trailer wiring? Maybe you have heard of this problem? Is 2016 factory parts worth keeping? I like the OEM look but geez only two years old. I also checked all 5 or 6 fuses - did not replace as they appeared good. Thank you Bryan

I wish I had better news but it sounds like the factory brake controller of your 2016 Ford Expedition is failed so you're going to have to replace it. I have a different solution though that I think you may like. If you use the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 you can still retain the factory look of your dash and have bypassed all of your problems. You'll also have one of the best brake controllers on the market too.
Basically this controller just plugs into an active 7-way and once synced to a smart phone is ready to tow. Check out the review video I attached for more info as well.
