Question:

Curt 56383 Custom Wiring Harness — I can’t really rate your product right now, because your instructions are really poor. They are vague. “Remove the scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and then up.” By looking behind the panel with a camera, these instructions would have me break the plastic tabs at the bottom that won’t allow you to “pull out.” I’m stuck. Please provide more specific instructions.

Since we have not yet had a chance to install Curt 4-Pole wiring harness # C56383 on a 2018 VW Atlas we do not yet have a video to share with you to show the scuff panel removal. I was not able to access an online owner's manual for the 2018 Atlas but it is possible that the printed manual that came with your car may have details about trim panel removal. As you noted, Curt's written instructions (Step 3) are not very detailed about the removal of this plastic trim piece so I contacted them.

My contact at Curt suggested trying a trim panel tool like # ALL648544 which can help to remove fasteners without damage. He also suggested asking your local dealership about how to remove the panel since Curt too does not yet have any video or additional information on that specific Atlas trim part.
