Why Aren't Trailer Axles Made Totally Flat without a Bow in Them
Updated 06/10/2019 | Published 06/09/2019 >
Question:
Can I get a straight axle 5200lb so I can have an easy choice of over/under slung by unbolting the brake assembly and rotating 180 degrees. On an other thought does it really matter if the brake shoes are up side down?

They put a slight bow into trailer axles so that when they have weight on them the camber angle for the wheels/tires isn't bad. Basically the axle slightly flattens out with weight so that you get the correct camper angle. Your choice would be to order an axle in the over/under configuration you need or installing an over/under kit if needed. If the brake shoes are upside down they'll still work fine but if you have a left side assembly on the right side of a trailer or vice versa you'd have weaker braking performance.
