Help Identifying Axle Capacity of Dexter SLR P12 SN: D8026684

Updated 05/28/2019 | Published 05/23/2019

Question:

What is the weight rating on this axle and should I consider buying a brake kit to install on it as I live in WA state where, I believe, I need brakes on anything over 3,500lbs?

I tried sending your picture and axle tag to Dexter and they weren't able to identify it strangely enough, BUT I can still help you identify it but you'll need to get me more info on your axle. Before I get into that though it looks like the capacity of your axle was cut off in the picture you sent in. On the white sticker the number on the bottom most likely was going to end with what the capacity is.

If you can get me the diameter of your axle that would be the easiest way to determine capacity.

Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity
- 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
- 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
- 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
- 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
- 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
- 10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter

Another route would be to know the dimensions of the spindle where the bearings ride or the numbers on the bearings like the picture I attached.
