Can you get rid of the bar thats in the middle of the rack?

Yes, the load bar you see pictured spanning the width of the Yakima LoadWarrior Cargo Basket # Y07070-74 can be removed. This load bar is completely optional (but is included with the kit) and it simply allows you to easily mount various accessories such as a bike rack or ski carrier to the basket. It essentially acts as a roof rack crossbar within the basket to provide more mounting options (see attached image).
