Can Larger Gauge Wire be Used from the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate to the Controller
Updated 05/20/2019 | Published 05/17/2019 >
Question:
I will have standard 10 gauge solar cables with MC4 connectors coming from solar panels to this plate but I want to increase the gauge of the wires that leave the entry plate and run to the controller. Can the existing 10 gauge wires be simply removed and replaced with 8 gauge wire?

You could use larger MC4 cable gauge wire from the Go Power Solar Cable Entry Plate # 34273840 to your controller but it wouldn't benefit you very much unless you used larger gauge wire from the solar panel to the entry plate. Larger gauge wire just ensures that enough power is getting from the power source to the part that needs powering but if the initial gauge wire is 10 then going larger further back wouldn't do anything for you. I recommend using one of the entry plates that comes with the power cords already like the 7' # 34276245, 10' # 34273841REVA, or 25' # 34273843REVA.
