Question:
I would like to test a HBA-CAM 381-7073 and a HBA-CAM 381-7063. We have used both of these modules on our trailers and I need to know how to test them to see if theyre still good. Is there a way to test one that is installed or uninstalled? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
Essentially the adapter part # HBA-CAM is designed to simulate amperage draw of a brake magnet by use of resistance. So you can use an multimeter like # PTW1714 set to read amperage to probe each wire of the adapter. As long as you are seeing over 7.5 amps the adapter would should allow a brake controller to think a trailer is connected.

I have the 381-7063 in my trailer. My truck is a 2020 F550. My brake controler is working. My brakes on the DRV trailer, brake controller and +, - work too. I'm not getting an error in the Ford dash of being disconnected. What is not working is the F550 does not turn on battery charge power to the DRV rv trailer. I have connected my truck F550 to a newer work trailer and the Brake Module did send power. Volts on battery in trailer confirmed it was charging. Ford states the truck must detect the trailer, and brake must be depressed before battery charger is sent to trailer. If my F550 can see my DRV rv trailer and my dash indicates the trailer is connected, does that indicate the 381-7063 is working? Does the 381-7063 play a part in the battery charge function??
