Yes, when the pin on a breakaway system like the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 20099 is pulled that then sends full 12 volt power to the trailer brakes. When power is sent to an electric braking assembly you may very well hear sort of a humming noise and this is not uncommon at all nor it is an indication that a problem is present.
