Question:
Hello, I have hitch model number 25980916 which I believe is a GM hutch and I have replacement hardware on order. The hitch is being installed on a 2015 GMC Terrain with Front wheel drive 2.4L NON flex fuel. Can you tell me how much torque I should use for the bolts that I use to install the hitch to the vehicle? Also for the ball?

The bolts that hold the OEM GM Trailer Hitch 25980916 to your 2015 GMC Terrain will need to be torqued to 74 ft lbs. The amount of torque that gets applied to the hitch ball on the ball mount however will vary based on what hitch ball it is. For example, if you were using the 2" Hitch Ball part # 40038 which has a 1" diameter shank then the nut will need to be torqued down to 250 ft lbs. This figure will be similar for other hitch balls with a 1" diameter shank.
If you don't want to have to worry about torquing the hitch ball down to 250 ft lbs which most torque wrenches are not capable of then you may want to consider the Rapid Hitch Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount Kit w/ 2 Greaseless Balls - 4" Drop or Rise # AM3461 which would also allow you to change up trailers without having to get a new ball mount.
