How to Transport Bikes with 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Sport

Updated 05/06/2019 | Published 05/03/2019

Question:

Do you offer a receiver hitch which will work for a 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Sport? This is the hatchback version with the 1.6L engine and dual exhaust. I would use this for a bike rack. I see a question on your site about the 2018 Elantra GT, the answer offers 2 hitches and notes one of them will not work with a GT Sport. That question does not state if you offer a hitch which will work on a GT Sport. Note this car was renamed as the 2019 Elantra GT N-Line - though the 2019 has a different bumper with more moldings.

I do have a way for you to transport your bikes but unfortunately there is not a trailer hitch available for your 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Sport. The dual exhaust on this particular model that you mentioned looks to be what is preventing a hitch from securing to the vehicle.

For your GT Sport we do however have a nice selection of trunk-mounted bike racks that are confirmed to fit. I specifically recommend the Thule Gateway Pro # TH88VR because its longer arcing body tubes are designed specifically to accommodate hatchback models with a rear spoiler like what you have. The anti-sway cradles will hold the bikes at 3 different points to greatly reduce any movement during travel so the bikes don't knock into each other or your Elantra.

The Gateway Pro can handle 2 bikes that weigh up to 70 pounds total. I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check out as well.

If you happen to have any children's, women's, or alternative frame bikes then you might also need an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This will provide a horizontal attachment point for level transport and improved ground clearance. I have attached a video review so you can see exactly how this is used and why it might be needed.
