Towing Capacity of 2014 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 1500

Question:
I have a 2014 Dodge ram Crew cab 1500 pickup truck with a gvwr rating of 6800 lb. Weight of my truck with no passengers and full of gas is 5505 lb. If I put 5 people with the average weight of 259 in the truck this brings the weight of the vehicle to 6800 lb. Does this mean for safety and legal standards I cannot put anything in the box of my truck, a fifth wheel camper or a pull-behind camper to make the truck go over 6,800 pounds?

Expert Reply:
Your 2014 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 1500 has a towing capacity that is separate from the capacity the vehicle has for weight that it carries either in the bed or in the cab. With your truck fully loaded with passengers you can still tow a trailer. I attached a chart that shows the towing capacities of your truck based on how it's equipped.
