Lockrack Watersport Carrier for a Old Town Saranac 154 Square Stern Canoe on Toyota 4Runners

Question:

Hello, Our family has 2006 and 2010 Toyota 4Runner’s. I am wondering if the lock rack water sport carrier will work on either or both of the vehicles with an Old Town Saranac 154 Square stern canoe that is 15’ 4” long. My concern is that the canoe is wider than the black slide resistant pads shown in the picture and the canoe would have to ride on the arm extensions which have no padding. Please let me know.

I do believe that you are correct in that your canoe may be too wide for the single rubber piece on the Lockrack Watersport Carrier # 339LR65LASET. Thankfully Lockrack has their Adjustable Watersport Carrier

Item # LR54FR which comes with universal mounting options (both brackets and T-Bolts) so this carrier will definitely work with your Old Town Saranac 154 Square stern canoe.

I reached out to my contact at Lockrack who not only confirmed this but also said that if you have anything but round bars you can actually disregard that center black piece and place the 4 pads anywhere on your crossbars. This makes the carrier compatible with just about any canoe out there! Just be sure that you don't have your canoe sitting at an angle and that you use tie-downs like the Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes w/Ratchets # TH855XT to help secure your canoe. It also may be helpful to use the Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops # MPG308 to give yourself easy access to tie-down locations on both of your Toyota 4Runenrs.
