How to Check Vehicle Wheel Offset

Updated 04/22/2019 | Published 04/19/2019

Question:

Hello. I have an Astra gtc with 5 stud 19inch alloys on. Im thinking of going down to 18. My dad has some 5 stud 18 inch alloys. Which he had on his Audi. Im just wondering if these would fit my Astra or not. Would save me fortune in buying some if they would. Thank you.

In order to use smaller alternate wheels and tires on your Vauxhall Astra GTC you will need to confirm whether they have the same offset as the OEM wheels. Offset is the difference spacing between the center of the tire tread and the wheel mounting surface. The tire center may sit either inward or outward of the wheel's mounting area on the hub. You will want to take one of the alternate tires to a tire shop and have them compare it to one of the OEM wheels.

For example, wheel/tire # AM33135DX has 1/2-inch of negative offset (-0.5) which means the center of the tread is 1/2-inch further away from the vehicle than the wheel mounting surface.
