Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The rims themselves look great but they need to be packaged better because mine came in with the paint chipped along to very rim of every rim due to needing better packaging allowing them to beat together. Other than that I like them.

I ordered this rim to use with a second spare for our travel trailer. All of the specifications are identical to our existing five rims. After a previous purchase for a different trailer that involved two returns, I was cautious about using this one until I could verify that it ran true, so today I had my tire guy mount this on his balance machine without a tire or stem. Though it is better than the two "offshore" rims I received a couple of years ago, it still has some run-out. It does not appear out of round, but slightly "wobbles". We carefully verified that the mounting surfaces were clean and without manufacturing defects. After a tire is mounted and balanced, it will suffice, but it sure isn't the same quality that I expected for a rim that's touted "Made in the USA".

I ordered 5 rims they said they would be in on the 12th and that is when they came in. Very good to work with will recommened very highly

Ask the Experts about this Dexstar Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • What Does JJ Mean for a Trailer Wheel
Your trailer wheels' JJ designation just refers to the shape of the bead seat, which is where the inside edge of the tire contacts the rim. You never really need to worry about this though since the correct 205/75-15 size tires you buy for these rims will automatically have that bead seat profile. If you buy new 15 x 5 rims they again will have this bead profile. The photos of your trailer's sticker shows us that your wheels are 15 x 5-inch size and you noted that you believe they are...

  • Recommended Tire Size for 15 x 5 Wheel
I have a solution for you, but the # AM20422 is a 15" x 5" wheel, which is going to be slightly too narrow for a 235/75/R15 tire. In order to fit a tire of that size you would need at least a 6" wide wheel like the # AM20522, but there may be some issues with using the tires you mentioned since they're designed for passenger vehicles and not a trailer. Typically, you won't want to use a tire with the P- prefix on it as those are designed for passenger tires and not for trailers. Trailer...

Yes, for Dexstar wheel 17-384 it is a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. Not very common nowadays but we do have some options. Wheel # AM20428 is a spoke wheel with the 5 on 5 bolt pattern or the mini-mod version is # AM20446DX. We have other 15 inch wheels with the 5 on 5 pattern, see link. Some of them are 6 inch wide wheels so check the titles carefully! A handy tool to check bolt patterns is # BC-TEMP. This is a great product if you frequently work with tires and wheels. • Trailer Tire vs. Trailer Wheel Weight Carrying Ratings
If a trailer tire and wheel each have different weight capacities then the lower-rated item of the two determines the overall capacity of the combination. You can certainly run a tire with a lower or higher weight rating than the wheel its used on but you will be limited to the capacity of the lower-rated component. The key for safe and legal trailering is to ensure that the lowest-rated component is rated adequately for the load on it. Extra capacity in other components is fine but you're...

The first thing you will need to check is if there is enough space around the existing tires to use the larger size. Based on the old size you have, 235/75-15 (which isn't a common trailer tire size) the tires are approximately 28.8 inches tall and 9.25 inches wide. The nearest size up in a 16 would be a 235/80-16 which is 30.9 inches tall and 9.4 inches wide. So the new size would be 2 inches taller and about 3/16 inches wider. The width is probably fine but you will need to make sure...
