Should Bias Tires be Upgraded to Radial for Towing Trailer Around the US

Question:

Jon, after shopping for a spare for my Tartan 5x10 utility, I now want to upgrade to your simulated chrome or aluminum. Stock is bias 205/75*14. While i could stuff 15inch in there, my real question is why NOT upgrade to radials? I do foresee towing around the U.S., so high speed plus local. Are bias just economical? My Cargo-Pro aluminum came with radials. Thanks.

The only reason you would want to use bias tires over radials is if you were primarily using the trailer for off-road purposes like around the farm. If the trailer is going to be used on pavement the majority (or all) of the time then by all means use radials because they tend to have higher speed ratings and are built to have more flex and dissipate heat better than bias.

For your application I recommend going with the Goodyear Endurance ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # 724864519 because it has more grooves in the treads than other tires, a nylon tread-firming belt, and durawall technology which gives it a superior build to the competitors. You can then choose from the linked page with all of our aluminum 14" wheels like the Lynx # LHSL211.

If you are looking for a combination that is already mounted then I recommend the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Tire w 14" Lynx Aluminum Wheel # 274-000015. A link to our selection of radial tire and wheel combos has been linked for you to filter through as well.

Review videos of the parts mentioned above have been linked for you to check out as well.
