Brake Controller Recommendation for 2019 Ram Bighorn 1500 Towing 30 foot Camper
Updated 04/15/2019 | Published 04/13/2019 >
Question:
I just bought the 2019 Ram Bighorn and will be traveling to Virginia to pick up a 30 foot RV Camper. I am not exactly sure of the type of brakes it has but I would like to know if I will have any issues towing it back to Florida. My Ram does not have the integrated electronic trailer brake controller. A squeezable controller to assist in breaking. It does however have the +/- controls on the steering wheel that will let me change the gear drive to help downshift on a decline. It also has Tow Haul mode. So... do I need something more that what is on my truck ie: trailer brake controller or will I be fine with my options that came with the truck? Thank for your time.

You absolutely do need a brake controller to tow a 30 foot camper. While your truck might be able to slow the trailer down at a pace that seems reasonable for how large of a trailer you have, you need to have the ability to stop quickly in an emergency situation and the only way you'll be able to do that is with a brake controller installed in your 2019 Ram.
A really easy to install and great option is the Curt Echo part # C51180. This basically just plugs into the 7-way at the rear of your truck and then the trailer plugs right into it and you've installed a great proportional brake controller. You'd then just need to sync it to your smart phone and you'd be set. I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.
