Will Aftermarket Trailer Hitch Increase Tongue Weight Capacity on 2014 Ram Longhorn Limited
Updated 04/15/2019 | Published 04/12/2019 >
Question:
I have a 14 Ram Longhorn Limited with a Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt of 760 pounds. Can I replace the factory hitch to increase this tongue weight spec? Thanks!

Helpful Expert Reply:
If your 2014 Ram Longhorn Limited features a factory tongue weight capacity of 760 pounds this cannot be increased by adding an aftermarket product like a new trailer hitch. Even if the aftermarket hitch has a higher tongue weight rating, you will still be limited by your truck's base capacity. Other components on the truck such as its engine, transmission, and axle axle ratio all contribute to the truck's capacity so replacing a single part will not actually increase its overall rating unless you are certain it was the weak link.
I have attached a link that will take you directly to our selection of trailer hitches for your 2014 Dodge Ram if you are still interested in doing this.
