Can Stromberg Carlson Extend-A-Shower Curtain Rod Have End Hinge Mounted Horizontally

Question:

Is it possible to install the mounting bracket horizontally? The existing bracket is oval shaped and the two mounting screws are 2 1/8” side to side. I kind of would like to use existing holes, of course. 2000 Allegro.

The Stromberg Carlson Extend-A-Shower Shower Curtain Rod for RVs - 35" to 42" - White # EXT-3542 cannot be installed horizontally because it would not then hold up the curtain at the ends. It would dip down on the ends slightly causing a larger dip in the center which isn't what you want.

I know it would be nice to use those existing holes or try to cover them, but the folding part of the shower bar and the horizontal structure all literally hinges on that vertical mount. You can simply caulk those holes an cover one of them with the new vertical mounted hinge.
