Can Base Plates for 2014 Jeep Cherokee be Used for Other Purposes Than Flat Towing

Updated 04/04/2019 | Published 04/03/2019

Question:

2014 Jeep cherokee latitude v6 off-road susp pkg drive II. I originally just wanted a recovery hook for the front, but there were no options from the manufacturer for any front mounted system. I recently found your website and found a flat tow pkg that added base plates for attaching a tow bar and watched the installation video. Late in the video, cables were wrapped around both the new plate and what the installer said was a bar part of the frame? between the two plates. If all I needed to use as a strap hook point was the safety chain hook loops, could that work? Or if not, could the detachable towbar mount be reconfigured with a hook or a loop? If so , could that additional mounting piece be added to a baseplate package?

The Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519307 that fits your 4WD 2014 Jeep Cherokee can only be used for flat towing; any other type of use than their intended design is not something that we can recommend doing because it has never been tested for that and could potentially damage your vehicle if used improperly.

This particular vehicle does not have a front mounted trailer hitch that will fit or even a grille guard that will fit so a hook in the front is really not a feasible option; the only thing you can do is add a rear-mounted trailer hitch such as the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13172 and use a recover hook like # BDW20017 that way.
