The first thing you will want to do is consult the vehicle owners manual for any recommendations or restrictions on tire chain use. Some vehicles need a specific Class of chains.
For the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan, if your owners manual states you can use chains, I recommend the Thule CG9 Pro Chains, # TH2004205104. These are the proper sized chain for an SUV with 235/50R18 tires.
The chains are easy to install and will tighten themselves as you drive. These chains require 12 mm of clearance around the tire. I have included a link to a video review and a link to our FAQ articles on chains for you.
