I have a 2012 Toyota Tundra with towing package but no brake controller...would this product be a good one for towing a bumper pull horse trailer or would you recommend a different one?

The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 would be perfect for towing your bumper pull horse trailer with a 2012 Toyota Tundra. If you have the extra money to spend on a nicer brake controller then this is the one I would go with. The reason for this is that you do not have to familiarize yourself with a new system/device. The settings are very easy to adjust via the in-app controls. There isn't a tiny screen that abbreviates all the codes that you have to learn, it's all right in front of you with easy to read, full text.
The Curt Echo also does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle so long as you have a 7-way with 12 volt power. The only other item I recommend for you is a mount for your phone, part # PC03. I have attached an in-depth review video on the brake controller for you as well.
