Aero Roof Rack and Kayak Carriers for 2019 Toyota Tundra

Question:

Looking for a roof rack for our 2019 Tundra so we can install kayak carriers. Used to have aero type rack and probably want to stick with one of those. Tundra has bare roof. We haul 2 or 3 kayaks, depending on our destination.

A quieter aero-style type roof rack is a good choice for your 2019 Tundra and we have options in this type for both the Tundra CrewMax and Double cabs. My favorite is the Rhino-Rack Vortex system, which is both one of the better designs and one of the better values in a quality aero-style roof rack.

For a black roof rack use parts # RRVA150B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK079. This setup fits both cab styles. The 59-inch bars have rubber strips to reduce wind noise and these can be removed to allow channel-mounted accessories to be installed, such as the LockRack Watersport carriers like # LR54FR. Please see the photo and video I included. The strips also help cushion the cargo items. You can add a metal lock kit # RRVA-LEC4 if desired. If you prefer silver bars just substitute part # RRVA150S-2. Once installed on your cab these bars will have a wide and stable 31-1/2-inch bar spacing which is excellent for securely transporting multiple kayaks.

For a multi-kayak carrier one of the best options is Thule's Stacker # TH830 which is a post-style carrier that handles up to four 10-foot kayaks on their sides. Please see the video for more on this item. If you prefer two separate carriers that can be positioned at the two outside ends of the roof rack for easier access then go for two of the Hull-A-Port # TH834 which is a J-style carrier that can be installed facing outward for easier loading.

You might consider a simple accessory step like part # SASA-10C-G to give you an easier reach for your loading and unloading.
