Recommended Sway Control for a 1,390 lb ProLite S Trailer

Published 01/10/2019

Question:

Hi I have a 1390# prolite plus s. The frame is only 2 inches tall. Do you think sway control is needed? Have not had an issue but heading out to Utah wete its pretty windy. The frame seems to small for all the ball mount brackets I have seen. Most seem to be for 2x3 or large Thanks

If you are anticipating high wind situations when towing your 1,390 lb ProLite Plus S trailer then adding a sway control system to your towing rig is a really good idea. Typically we recommend using a weight distribution (WD) system that has integrated sway control if your trailer weight is at least half of the weight of your towing vehicle. Since this trailer is pretty light though a WD system may not be necessary.

We do have stand-alone sway control units available that install directly on the trailer itself. I recommend going with the Curt True Course # C94VV because of how easy it is to install and use. This option does require that you drill into the frame of your trailer but after that it is a simple matter of plugging in the 7-Way to get sway control. The Curt detects trailer sway and activates the brakes on either side of your trailer to counter it.

Some other perks of this system is that you can fairly easily transfer it to another trailer and there is no calibration process at all! Check out the linked review video for more info on this unit.
