Converting 2015 Ford F-350 Pickup with OEM 5th Wheel Prep to Flatbed

Updated 01/02/2019 | Published 12/31/2018

Question:

I am wanting to swap from my stock truck to a flatbed but I am not sure what I need to do to my flatbed if anything at all. I do have the puck system Ford OEM installed on my truck. Do I need to fab it into my flatbed? Does the flatbed need to be recessed in order for me to haul my fifth wheel? Knowledge needed!

A Ford pickup with the factory-installed OEM puck mounting system for 5th wheels will require a custom-fabricated flat bed conversion in order for you to retain that feature. Flatbed trucks are often used with low-profile 5th wheel hitches like Demco Hijacker SL Series Flat Deck 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM6076SL-FLAT since the bed height is typically a little higher than on a pickup.

To use a standard 5th wheel hitch made for industry-standard rails (ISRs) like # PS30128 that you referenced you would need an adapter # RP30156 installed in the OEM pucks. Please note this will raise the height of the installed hitch by just under 3-inches.

Please note that the rear corners of flat beds can sometimes cause interference with trailers.
