We can set you up with a better brake controller than the factory brake controller that GM would have installed in your truck that wouldn't require any programming, but the factory one will require programming and will cost more and not perform as well.
The brake controller I recommend for your 2006 Chevy Silverado is the Prodigy P3 part # 90195 because this brake controller senses the amount of braking your truck is applying and puts a proportional amount of braking on the trailer's brakes. It also has a display that uses full words instead of codes that would have to be deciphered. It's our best selling brake controller because of how well it works, how reliable it is, and how easy it is to use.
To install it you just need the install harness part # 3015-P which plugs into the back of the controller and then into the junction box under the dash of your truck. I attached an install video for this controller and harness on a similar 2005 Silverado for you to check out as well.
