Blue Ring Partially Filled on Curt Echo While Accelerating

Question:

Installed this today to tow our airstream with a 2017 LR Discovery. Seemed to work well, but noticed the app showed the blue ring partially filled about 5 while accelerating. The blue ring would fill up under braking, as expected, but we would have expected no portion of the blue ring to show while accelerating. Is there a simple way to recalibrate? Thank you.

In regards to the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180, if the blue ring that represent the current brake outlet level is shown partially filled when you first accelerate then you will want to make a quick circle around the block and then get out and feel your brakes. If they are hot then there is an issue with the app. I recommend deleting it from your phone and then reinstalling. If the brakes are not hot then odds are there is just a slight delay between the app and device so I would not worry.

If deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't work for the delayed current brake outlet level then please let me know and I will see if we can offer further troubleshooting support for you.

We’re having the same problem. Breaks are being applied during acceleration. We’ll try uninstalling and re-installing.

@ChrisR Thanks! Every once in a while, the display indicates that the breaks are applied when they’re not. From what we can tell, the breaks on the trailer are not applied during these times. We’re getting our wiring checked ASAP. Question about the output and sensitivity settings. Our trailer is just under 2000 lbs. We’re noticing that at lower speeds, < 10 mph in traffic, the trailer jerks a bit. I’m thinking that, at these speeds, we might need to lower the output a bit. I’m also thinking that, if the sensitivity is too low, then slightly pressing the breaks at low speeds doesn’t activate the breaks .. until it does and the breaks activate. Is it common to need different settings in different conditions? We’ll keep testing them to see if we can get it dialed in.

@Tammie I've not really seen where adjustments are required for each specific condition (traffic, highway, etc) but I think you may benefit from lowering the overall sensitive of the Echo. It sends back power to the brakes based on deceleration, so lowering the sensitivity a bit should prevent it from sending power with subtle slow-downs, etc.
