Question:
Hi, Ive read a few questions on here about tire chains for a 2018 Subaru Forester and your experts dont seem to agree. Im seeing some say that because the manual says no chains then youd have to use cables. But others say you could fit low profile chains as long as they are SAE class S compatible. Which is it? My tires are 225/60r17. My Forester is the 2.5L premium trim if that makes a difference. Thanks!

All cable chains are low profile and fit the Class S requirements for minimal clearance. There are some chains that are small link style versus cable chains that will provide better traction and still meet the Class S requirements. My recommendation for better traction is to use the link chain versus the cable option any time possible.
If you are looking to just be legal, then I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # TC1553. I've attached a video of these chains on a 2018 Forester to help.
If you want the best option, the Konig K-Summit # TH02230K45 are the best and have no internal clearance requirements because they don't connect all the way around the tire. These are the best for keeping with OEM recommendations and also giving you the best traction. They have special tools that are required for installation. This is a patented design and the best option to keep manufacturers happy as there is no internal clearance issue so no interference with any components.
