On your 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty the factory brake controller plug will be located under the dash, near the steering column. You will be looking for a 6-prong gray rectangular plug. The location for the plug should be under the steering column toward the left. I am including a link to a video of a brake controller installation on a 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty. It will show the brake controller plug and the location.
If you have a factory 7-Way connector on your truck, all you will need is the brake controller and the plug-in wiring adapter for that brake controller. I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, and the Tekonsha Wiring Adapter, part # 3035-P. This is our top selling brake controller.
If you have a factory 4-Way connector on your truck, you will need the items above and the Hopkins Adapter, part # 37185. This adapter will plug into your factory 4-Way and give you a 7-Way at the rear of your truck that is needed when using a brake controller. You will need to hardwire the four remaining wires on the # 37185 adapter to your vehicle.
The four remaining wires will need to be hardwired to the corresponding circuits on the vehicle. The white (ground) wire will need to be attached to the vehicle frame, the black (12 volt power) wire is connected to the vehicles battery with 10 gauge wire like the # 10-1-1, through a 40-amp circuit breaker # 9510, the blue (trailer brake) wire will be connected to the blue trailer brake feed wire on the brake controller, and the purple (auxiliary) wire is for reverse lights if you need that circuit. If any of these connections are not needed just wire tie them up out of the way for future use.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on Ford brake controllers.
