Solution for Porpoising with 2015 Chevy Silverado Towing Rockwood Camper with WD System

Question:

I have a 2015 Chevy 1500 crew cab 4x4 with tow package. I got larger camper 30foot 2006 Rockwood 8314SS. I have just installed a Reese W/D and dual cam anti-sway. However, Im not completely happy with porpoising. Ive adjusted w/d system. Is there an additional system, shocks etc..I can add in assisting in a better quality and ease of ride?

If you are still experiencing a lot of up and down porpoising with your Rockwood Trailer I first just recommend making sure that your weight distribution is rated properly for your setup. You will want to make sure that your total tongue weight, which consists of the trailer's loaded tongue weight along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Silverado, falls somewhere within the range of your weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity. An under or over-rated system can certainly contribute to up and down movement on the trailer.

If the weight distribution system is properly rated then you can also try redistributing some cargo weight on the trailer. Make sure the trailer's tongue weight is 10 to 15 percent of its total weight. Adding some tongue weight or taking some off may help.

If this doesn't help then another option is adding a suspension enhancement system on your Silverado. I recommend taking a look at the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS4611. This system will essentially convert your truck's leaf springs into a mechanically active suspension system to increase stability, handling, and control. It will work great alongside your weight distribution system to create an overall smoother ride for both your truck and the trailer.
