Should I Use Spacers When Installing the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System

Question:
Hi. I just installed this unit on my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee and hooked up to Jayco X17C travel trailer. Everything is all level etc and turns/backs fine on short test run. My question is how necessary is the spacer rivet? It’s on there but I didn’t use any of the washers supplied as I just tightened the hitch head Where it was all level and the spacer rivet is just sitting there loose won’t fall out......did I do something wrong?

The spacer rivet along with the washers are very important pieces of the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System. These are going to be used to ensure the system is transferring the proper amount of weight to the front axle of the tow vehicle which is then going to affect the vehicle's ability to control the sway of the trailer. The system can still be level without using the spacers but this is then taking away pretty much all of its sway control properties. The head actually needs to be tilted towards the trailer, not level.
I recommend starting with four spacers and then adjusting accordingly until the vehicle is back within 1/2" of the original and the spring bars are level to the trailer frame. The instruction manual has been attached for you and I highly recommend you go over the head tilt and spacer potion as this is a circuital component of the system.
