how do I know if this part will fit a 1986 sooner. What should I look for to make sure this part will work.

The Ram Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Trailer Coupler Adapter # KPG5-R30 is simply a replacement for the gooseneck coupler currently on your trailer; it will replace both the inner and outer tubes of your current coupler.

This adapter has a 4 inch inner tube and 4-1/2 inch outer tube and you will need to have a qualified professional install the brand new coupler.
