Solution to Allow Trailer with Surge Brakes to Back Up

Question:
I am needing to back my boat trailer up a small incline and the surge brakes on my trailer are preventing me from doing so. I know that it is because the weight of the boat is shifting forward and causing the brakes to actuate. My question is how do I prevent that from happening? Thanks

Expert Reply:
You can install free-backing brake assemblies that won't activate when the trailer is backed up or you can install a lockout on the actuator. I attached a link to a page that has all of the free-backing assemblies we carry for you to check out. You'd need to measure the dimensions you currently have and then match the size you need by selecting it from the filters on the page.
I'd need to know what brand of surge actuator you have to pick out the correct lock out you'd need.

I have a 19 foot boat four wheel brakes and when I bought this boat in 217 I used to back up on the incline never had a break problem. All of a sudden I have a problem locking up. I do have that pin that you put in place there is a blue wire in the harness that’s cut. It might’ve been from the factory, but it’s in a sleeve so it did not get caught by accident, I have a five pin plug
