Wire Gauge and Color Connection to Vehicle for Hopkins 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM11141144

Question:

How is the wire color and gauge connection from HM11141144, connected to truckside colored wire and gauge wired. Is the white ground wire from HM11141144 connected to any of the wires from trailerside and grounded to truck? What is the color and gauge from HM11141144, when making connection to truckside color and gauge wires.

The Hopkins Multi-Tow 7-Way Blade and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Chevrolet/GMC # HM11141144 will connect the following way:

harness color to vehicle color--I've attached a photo to assist.

white to black
brown to brown
yellow to yellow
green to green
purple to gray
blue to blue
red to orange

The wires are 12 gauge for white, blue, and red. They are 14 gauge for the other function colors. The kit comes with the butt connectors and dielectric grease for installation.

I recently installed this part on my 2019 Canyon. When testing functionality using my trailer, nothing functions. On the 4-way flat turn signals, brakes etc do not come on. How can I figure out if its the connector of the trailer. I have volt meter capable of measuring 12v output, but I am not sure where to attach the leads. Thank you

To pinpoint which side the issue is on I'd start by testing the new 4-Way on your Canyon without the trailer connected. You can probe the pins themselves (see linked video) or the wiring right behind the connector. If you still don't have power with the corresponding functions activated, you know the problem is on the Canyon. If you do get power then you can turn your attention to the trailer side. If this is the case I'd just visually inspect that trailer side connector for any debris/corrosion inside the pins that needs to be cleaned out. Let me know what you find and we can go from there.
