I took a look at the owner's manual for a 2019 Jeep Cherokee and it can only be done on 4x4 Models With a 2-Speed Power Transfer Unit. I strongly recommend going to page 381 which is where the explanation of the process begins and because there are many steps covering a number of pages you will want to be sure to follow them one-by-one.
There are a number of parts needed in order to flat tow your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, which I will list for you:
- Base Plate Kit: Demco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9519340 (so long as your transfer case has a "Neutral" option)
- Tow Bar: Demco Excali-Bar III Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511013
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Supplemental Braking System: SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 OR if your motorhome has air brakes: SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243
In regards to the wiring kit and supplemental braking systems, please note that some models of the Cherokee may use Mortorq® fasteners and if your vehicle has these types of fasteners, you will need a PFMTS2E bit to remove them, which can be ordered through a Snap-On dealer.
Base plates are vehicle-specific and the Demco Classic are a fit for your '19 Cherokee Trailhawk and give your car a clean look. The Excali-Bar tow bar is a great option because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, along with integrated safety cables and an adjustable, tilting head so a high-low adapter won't be needed. Having these features on a tow bar means you won't have to purchase them separately, saving you additional expenses.
The wiring kit is designed to effectively prevent electrical feedback to keep your Cherokee's electrical system safe, and the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO as well as the SMI Air Force ONe supplemental braking systems are highly recommended because they a one-time install which you can leave in so you'll never have to deactivate or reactivate them.
I have also added links to video reviews and installations for you to take a look at, including the base plates, wiring and braking system on a '19 Cherokee.
