What are the Differences Between the Fastway # FA92-00-0800 and the Husky # HT32217

Question:

Trying to decide between Husky part #Ht32217 VS Fastway part #FA 92-00-0800. Any obvious differences or recommendations on one of these two? Towing 24.5 foot travel trailer with dry weight of 4260# and tongue weight of 480#. Tow vehicle Ram 1500. Not sure if even need WDH but would rather be safe than sorry. I was going to buy the Fastway part #FA 94-00-0800 but the bracket range of 24-27inch will hit the back of the propane tanks and the others are mounted further back on the trailer frame 27-31 so I wouldnt need to do any modifications. Any other suggestions in a value hitch? I dont like the chain ones with separate sway control.

A weight distribution (WD) system is always recommended when the loaded weight of the trailer is at least half of the curb weight of the vehicle. Since this is the case with your travel trailer and Ram 1500 I do recommend using a WD system.

The biggest difference between the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0800 and the Husky Center Line # HT32217 is that the Fastway has a tongue weight (TW) range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs while the Husky only has a TW range of 600 lbs - 800 lbs.

Aside from that the only other difference is that the Husky comes with a 2-5/16" hitch ball while you will need to purchase one separately, with part # 63840, for the Fastway. The design of the Fastway also warrants the use of a thin-walled socket like part # EQ70-00-4800 so that you can install the hitch ball.

A properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the weight of the loaded trailer. If your loaded TW along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Ram is about in the middle of either of these systems then that is the one you want to use.
